CW is continuous Wave, meaning radiotelegraph. And the CW terms are used for the last century in spoken and written. Just like you send a story in a message to your friends, it will take a long time to type. So, when we used ASAP, LOL, OMG, and VIP, our grandfathers used their CW words.
Here are a few CW terms,
OM means ‘Old man’-Any adult male, not just an old one.
OT means ‘Old timer’-An old man with lots of experience.
YL means ‘young lady’- any unmarried female, adult or not.
XYL means ‘ex young lady’- married woman, usually talking about your wife.
HI HI means ‘telegraphic laughter’-not HAHA.
DE means ‘this is’-part of the station identification.
K means ‘over’-the transmission is over, now you can talk.
73 means ‘best regards’- we always say 73 with callsign in the end.
AR means ‘out’- done talking.
88 means ‘love and kisses’-farewell between lovers.
DX means ‘distant’- as in a distant contact.
QTH means ‘location’- it refers to the home QTH
QSL means ‘acknowledge receipt’- a standard size card with your information that can send to your contacts.

In the last century, Morse codes were often used to communicate, and when we used Morse codes to send messages, it took us longer to remember, look up, and type. The CW term is widely used because it saves time and effort. Today, as technology advances, hams still use the CW term when they use radio.
