I’ve been looking for a more powerful Mobile Radio for my RZR XP 1000 to replace my CB Radio, simply because the CB Radio is only 4W and has too much noise and too long an antenna. GMRS Mobile Radio would be the best solution for use at UTV, replacing CB radio.
Why GMRS Mobile Radio?
Now I finally found a suitable mobile radio: Retevis RA87. This is a GMRS Mobile Radio, I’m used to using CB radio without license, so I’ve been looking for a similar license-free mobile radio, unlike HAM, ham need to take a test to get a license. GMRS radio is not like HAM, ham need to take a test to get the license. The cost is not high, $30 for a 10-year term. And after getting the license, other people in the family can also use it.
The RA87 is a 40w high power transmitter. This is another reason why I chose it. 40w transmitter power not only gives UHF radio the same range as CB radio, but GMRS radio belongs to the UHF frequency band, and its penetration ability is much higher than that of CB radio. in the same working environment, the sound of RA87 will be much clearer. The 5/8 Wave Antenna is too long to be used on the UTV.
