Many Outdoor enthusiasts like to choose RT622P Ultra Slim Walkie Talkies for their outdoor adventure because of its mini size. Recently, Fred reviewed this radio on his YouTube channel and he was impressed by its features. Here are some of his views.
Overview
RT622P is a 15mm ultra-slim portable PMR446 radio. It is an upgraded version of RT622, thinner and lighter than RT622. This model also has FRS version called RT22P. It doesn’t have a screen. It has an a indicator located on the Retevis logo. Designed for portability, RT622P has a short antenna for receiving and transmitting. One thing I like on this radio is has a power and volume combo button, since it is easy to switch. On the one side, the orange key is PTT button. There are two side keys to switch channels and they can be programmed as the function shortcuts. It has a small protrusion on the side, which is the menu key. On the other side, there are jacks for earphone and charging. On the back, it has a removable belt clip. All in all, this radio is very compact and well designed.
Highlights
Programmable Side Keys
It is very easy to set the DOWN button as a shortcut to turn on Scan Function or Emergency alarm function via programming software. Long-press the DOWN button for 2 seconds can turn on the functions.
Channel Lock Function
The channel lock function is to fix the channel. After it is turned on, only the frequency cannot be adjusted, and other function keys can be used normally. Long-press the menu button for 2 seconds and hear a prompt/ a beep, the current channel is locked. Repeat the step to unlock the channel.
Type-C Charging
RT622P supports Type-C Charging, which is the same way that most portable devices are charged. I like this charging method because it is simple and convenient when I use it.
Higher Battery Capacity
The battery capacity of RT622P is 1620 mAh, which is higher than most of license-free radios. As a low power PMR446 radio, its working time is quite long, up to about 17 hours.
Range Test
Through European wireless laws, the power of PMR446 radio is locked at 0.5W, which means it will not cover the long range but good for short range communication. I test it in a densely populated built-up area. Here is a video of me doing the range test.
Conclusion
This is a very thin and light set of basic small PMR446 radios, and it is really in the budget range. Great for using them to communicate between cars when you’re on vacation.
