A marine radio is a specific VHF radio for boating and marine. It has 2 types for different usages, fixed-mount radio, and handheld radio. However, VHF radios are also fixed on vehicles and taken them off. So, we will show you the differences.
The most striking feature of maritime radio:
- IPX7 super waterproof function. The marine radio is used onboarding and on ships, so the super waterproof function is the basic need for mariners.
- Big and clarify buttons. The mariners always wear gloves when working, so they need a big and clear button to reduce the operation errors.
- CH16/9 International Emergency channel button. Channel 16 and channel 9 as an international distress frequency are highlighted.
- International/Canada/ USA bands. You can switch to these 3 bands in your area.
- GPS function.
- 88 marine channels. The marine channels are fixed, and the operators do not have to program the channel on the radio.
- Dual/Tri-band watch. You can watch the current channel and channel 16, or the current channel, channel 16, and broadcast channel.
- DSC function. DSC is a digital selective calling function. If you are in danger, you can press the [distrees] button for 5 seconds, and the Coast Guard can receive your MMSI code and your location through GPS.
These are the specific function of marine radios, and some of them will not be set on VHF radios. And each boart should have a marine radio in low, so we have a new inexpensive fixed mount VHF marine radio RM20 is recommended to you.
