Unboxing & First Thought
Look at these PMR446 radios and they are very affordable. You’ll be shocked when I tell you how cheap these are—Only $27.99 for getting 2 packs. I think because they are so hard-wearing, so they’ll be ideal in perhaps a carer situation if you’re looking after someone that has mobility issues maybe someone that’s just had surgery post-surgery maybe someone has a disability. One thing that I like is straight out of the box. It’s a simple radio without complex design and operation. And they also can be programed with more function. You just need to buy an extra cheap programming cable and use the free software on their website to program them.
RT617 walkie talkie is charged via the USB charging base. You can charge it through various USB charging interfaces, such as car charger, USB charger, computer USB charger, mobile power and so on. Almost all USB charging jacks can be used.
Range Test
I tested the range of these radios in a built-up area over half a mile. They perform well on the audio quality. In fact, the calling distance of RT617 walkie-talkie can reach to 1.2 miles in the city, while up to 1.8 miles in an open environment.
Summary
These radios are very easy to use with just two controls on the top which is a channel select and volume control. They are full UK legal with 0.5w output and 16 channels. I managed a good range in a very dense built up area. The audio was very clear helped by a large speaker. The quality of the handsets is very good at this price. If you purchase a USB program cable you can access other features of the radio such as VOX hands free operation. These radios would be ideal for a small business or maybe for someone with mobility issues. Overall a good solid buy.
