I have the RB27V (MURS) version of this radio. When looking at power output of these three purchased radios on low power, my Surecom SW102 showed something very erratic.
Power output into a proper Dummy load was only 0.170 – 0.180W. Same for all three radios, all five channels. Okay, guess I’ll accept this, knowing my meter low tolerance is .5W rated.
Now it gets really weird…
At low power setting, all three radios were showing as transmitting at 453 – 455Mhz. The radio control panel was indicating proper MURS frequency for all five channels. These radios could all see and hear each other if on same channel.
Due to the very low TX power output, I can’t confirm if it’s a radio problem, or the meter just can’t see anything accurately under .5W input.
Those of you who have the MURS version of this radio, beware of my findings, and operate at low power at your own risk. If frequency is shifting this much, you can bet the little MURS antenna VSWR is going to be through the roof.
I had channel 1 programmed for low power operation, but have now shifted it to high power. (2W) and everything now appears normal. My meter now sees proper frequency, and 1.5W output on all three radios..
Went looking for replacement batteries just to have some spares, but can not find any anywhere. Overall,,this is a great little unit, and I can’t seem to find a logical reason Retevis stopped manufacture of this model. Maybe for reasons my meter was telling me….?
