culculate the watt-hour-

How do you know if your radio will get on the plane

One customer wrote on our Facebook that she had bought Retevis’s radio as a gift for a friend. But she didn’t know if the battery would carry it on the plane. As we all know, planes have strict rules on batteries, and if you go beyond that you can only throw them away. So, let’s discuss if your radio will get on the plane, and what is the Watt-hour.

So, we have to know some important parameters about the battery.

  • Voltage
  • Capacity
  • Watt-hour

According to what the customer mentioned, the local airline requires the battery watt-hour not to exceed 160WH, but she does not know the watt-hour of the battery, so she is worried that the battery and the radio can be carried on the plane.

There is a formula for calculating watt-hours:

WH=W*A

It means you can find the standard voltage times battery capacity, you can get the Watt-hours.

Let do an example:

This is the battery label battery labelof RB27V, we can find the voltage and capacity on it, and fortunately, you can also find the Watt-hours on it. So, let us use the formula to calculate the Watt-hours.

The voltage is 3.7V

The capacity is 1500mAh(Please notice, you need to convert milliamperes to amperes )

So the Watt-hour is 3.7V*1.5Ah=5.55WH The same as the label

So, you can take the radio on the plane safely.
