How does the children’s walkie-talkie communicate with analog radio?
Can children’s walkie-talkies and analog radios communicate with each other? Recently, we received this question:
“Retevis RT36 in Europe compatible with other PMR446 models like Retevis RT618?
Today, I got RT36, and I got very strange behavior.
Between two RT618, they work well. And between two RT36, they work well, too. However, between RT618 and RT36, they don’t work.
Here’s the detailed behavior:
All four devices (two RT36 and two RT618) are on. All of them are set to channel 1.
– When the PTT button is pressed at an RT618, I can see the RX icon in the RT36’s screen. But no sound is coming through RT36 while another RT618 receives the sound.
– When the PTT button is pressed at an RT36, I can see the TX icon in the RT36, and RT618’s green light is on. But no sound is coming through RT618 while another RT36 receives the sound.
In the meantime, I downloaded the RT618 software. Although I could not succeed to connect the device, I found the default DCS values are different from what’s written in RT36’s manual. Could it be the culprit?”
That’s correct. For analog radio communication, just set all communication channel with same frequency and CTCSS/DCS is ok.
According to the frequency and DCS on the RT36 manual,
We can change the CTC/DCS of RT618 to be consistent with RT36.
Then they can communicate with each other.
