Retevis RA79: Easy Guide to Functions and Operations

Retevis RA79 is Retevis’s new ham radio, was very popular as soon as it was launched. It is cheap and can be used as the first radio for many novice hams. And it has many functions, this blog briefly introduces some quick operations.

1. Switching to Radio Mode
To get started, press the “F” and “0.” This will take you into the radio mode. Use the up and down arrow keys to change the frequency or switch between preset radio stations. Alternatively, you can input the radio frequency or station directly using the keyboard.

2. Toggle Between VFO and MR Mode
If you want to switch between VFO (Variable Frequency Oscillator) and MR (Memory Recall) mode, simply press “F” and “1.”

3. Automatic Station Search
Press “F” and “2” to initiate an automatic station search. The radio will automatically store up to 20 stations it finds during this process.

4. Manual Station Search
To manually search for stations, press “F” and “3.” When you come across a station, remember to manually save the channel.

5. Storing Channels
Use the “MENU” button to store your current channel. If you want to exit the station search process, press the “EXIT” button. You can also use the up and down arrow keys to change the scanning direction.

6. Switching to Intercom Mode
In radio mode, if you receive a valid call on the intercom channel or press the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button to initiate a call, the radio will temporarily switch to intercom mode. After the intercom conversation ends, it will automatically return to FM radio mode.

7. Exiting Radio Mode
To exit the radio mode at any time, simply press the “EXIT” button or “F” and “0.”
