The DSC Function of Retevis RM40 VHF Marine Radio

Digital selective calling or DSC is a standard for transmitting pre-defined digital messages via the medium-frequency (MF), high-frequency (HF) and very-high-frequency (VHF) maritime radio systems. This radio has a red emergency button “distress” on its back. By pressing and holding the button for 3 seconds you can send an emergency distress signal. You can also select the type of emergency from an on-screen list of options, which can save for 10 minutes after your selection. The coastal radio maintains a 24-hour continuous watch on the DSC distress safety frequency. When a ship is in distress at sea and send an emergency distress signal,  nearby ships will immediately receive the emergency rescue call.

Distress call

A distress call can be transmitted in the opinion of needs while the ship is in distress and require immediate assistance. But please note that the distress call is only be used for emergency help.

Individual call

The individual call function allows to call a specific ship.

Group call

The group call function allows to call a specific ship sation (ship group). The ship has its own group call ID code. The whole ship will receive while transmitting a group call.

All ships call

The all ships call function allows to call the whole ships.

Geographical area call

The geographical area call function allows to call the whole ship sation in the sea area you are in.

Position request call

Transmit a position request call while you want to know a specific ship’s position.

Polling report call

Transmit a polling report call while you want to know if a specific ship is in the commnunication area or not.
