What is the ShortWave Radio?
Retevis released a Shortwave radio HS1, the HF SDR Ham Transceiver.
But what is the Shortwave Radio?
From the wikipedia:
Shortwave radio is radio transmission using shortwave radio frequencies. There is no official definition of the band, but the range always includes all of the high frequency band (HF), and generally extends from 1.7–30 MHz (176.3–10.0 m); from the high end of the medium frequency band (MF) just above the mediumwave AM broadcast band, to the end of the HF band.
Shortwave Radio operates on the frequencies between the AM and FM bands. Shortwave uses very high frequencies from 3mHz – 30mHz.
Ailunce HS1 with the frequencies range from 0.5mhz-30mhz. So we called HS1 as the shortware radio.
Shortware Radio’s type of modulation:
Audio modes: AM, SSB, VSB, NFM, DRM
Data modes: CW, RTTY, FAX, SSTV
AM: Amplitude modulation, is the simplest type and the most commonly used for shortwave broadcasting.
SSB: Single sideband, is a form of amplitude modulation but in effect filters the result of modulation
Ailunce HS1 with the Operating mode: SSB(J3E), CW, AM, FM, FREE-DV
Free-DV is a Digital Voice mode for HF radio. More about this, please find here: https://freedv.org/
Use of the Shortwave Radio
- Amateur radio operators at the 80/75, 60, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10-meter bands. Licenses are granted by authorized government agencies.
- Radio Station with FM receiving mode, can receive FM radio, Wireless Microphone, Television sound.
- Radio Station with FM receiving mode, also can receive AM band of medium wave, short wave radio broadcast. This means that a radio station can also be used as a FM radio.
Note: Because of the different modulation between radio and FM, even at the same frequency, the basic FM radio can’t receive the signal from the Shortwave Radio Station.
Ailunce HS1 is a really shortware radio. The TX/Rx range: 0.5-30MHz. Can be Operated at 40, 30, 20, 15, and 10-meter Bands.
No matter Shortwave radio or Other amateur radios, they are all our hobby, that will brings people, electronics and communication together.
